Engine bay shaving Part 1

Been busy with life and all that lately, took a little time off from the car for a few weeks but I’m back at it. I’ve gotten the engine bay cleaned up to the point that I can start welding on it without calling the fire depart me to be on stand by. There was approx 1.5 lbs of solid dirt in the bay mixed with what I will assume was 30 years of power steering fluid and other grime.

Began the tedious exercise of shaving the engine today ( for those who don’t know that means i’m filling up all the holes in the engine bay by welding them shut ). Now normally people do this using a Mig welder but because I only have a AC/DC Tig welder I’m doing it this way. chopping up small bits of 18g steel and placing them in holes to fill in the spaces so i’m not having to try and melt the edge and then fill the rest in with filler wire. I’m no expert at welding in fact this is really the first time i’ve even attempted something of this scale with a welder. So Please Enjoy the boogers!

I’ll be cutting this section of the front of the car out almost entirely and replacing it with 14g steel … currently it’s suuuuuper safe…. yea…
